For over 35 years, Mark Optics has been an expert at manufacturing quartz and
glass polished plano optics (windows). We define a window as a piece of glass or
fused silica (quartz) that has both sides polished and parallel to each other
(they are “see-through”).
The term “optical window” is subjective and depends on your specific
application. When requesting an optical window quote from Mark Optics it is
important to select the following specifications. See
Quote Form
1. Scratch/Dig Specifications: See Table for typical
callouts
a. Scratch defined as any long and narrow small mark or tear of the polished
surface.
b. Any small rough spot (round) on the polished surface, similar to pits in
appearance.
2. Surface Roughness:
a. A measure of smoothness or texture of a surface different from surface
quality in that it is not a defect allowance. Specified in micro inch, microns,
nanometers, or angstrom.
3. Flatness:
a. The amount a surface departs from an ideal planar form of infinite radius.
Usually specified as a linear unit or a fraction of a wavelength of light at a
specified wavelength.
4. Parallelism/Wedge:
a. The deviation from equal spacing between two surfaces, typically specified in
angular or linear terms.
